Apple is addressing emoji racism with its latest software update for the iPhone 's operating system.
The iOS 8.3 beta, which went live on Wednesday, lets users pick smiley faces with a variety of different skin tones representing the different races around the world.
It comes as users are frequently using the Japanese pictures to communicate emotions. Snapchat even uses them to rank your friendships.
Apple's also replaced the wristwatch emoji with one of the upcoming Apple Watch.
If you've downloaded the update through the "Settings" menu on the iPhone or iPad, you'll find the extra emojis in the "Keyboards" option.
Long-pressing on a particular emoji, such as a thumbs up, will give you the option to choose a different skin colour.
The last colour that you used for an emoji will remain as the default colour until you specifically change it again.
Apple has thrown a few other features into the update as well, notably the ability to use the CarPlay feature wirelessly.
So if your car supports CarPlay, you'll no longer need to plug your iPhone in to get your music or directions on the center display.
It will also enable wi-fi calling for EE customers and allow them to take advantage of the network's new scheme to use Wi-Fi to avoid dropped calls.
