How to cheat WhatsApp's read receipts and open a message without activating the blue ticks

WhatsApp's blue ticks are a constant source of anxiety for some
We've all been there - you're flirting with someone on WhatsApp and you're trying to play it cool, but every time you open a message those pesky blue ticks blow your cover.
Or worse, you've laid your heart on the line and you're eagerly awaiting a response, but the "read receipt" makes it all too clear that your message has been received - and ignored.
If these excruciatingly awkward scenarios sound familiar, you may be pleased to know that there is a way to cheat the system, and avoid unleashing the blue ticks of shame.
Next time you receive a message that you don't want to reply to immediately, simply switch your phone to "Airplane Mode" before opening the message.
This lets you peruse your WhatsApp messages to your heart's content, while the sender is left none the wiser. The app on their phone will continue to show two grey ticks, indicating that the message is still unread.
Just make sure that, when you've finished, you close WhatsApp before switching off Airplane Mode. This way, the message will continue to appear unread until you choose to open it again.
Of course, if you'd rather banish the blue ticks from your life altogether, you can turn off read receipts permanently on your iPhone or Android device with a few taps.
Just open WhatsApp, go to "Settings", select "Account" and "Privacy", and then switch off "Read Receipts".
Just remember that, if you do this, you will not be able to see read receipts from your friends either, so you won't know whether they have read your messages - but perhaps that's a mercy.
