WhatsApp is now FREE forever - and promises it won't start showing adverts

WhatsApp is doing its best to cheer everyone up on Blue Monday by announcing its plans to scrap the yearly 69p subscription fee.
Until now, the app had been free for the first year but then charged users to continue using it.
The company's CEO, Jan Koum, announced the change today at a conference in Berlin and confirmed it would not start showing adverts to users.
In a blog post detailing the decision, the company suggested it could make money through new communication between individuals and businesses.
Naturally, people might wonder how we plan to keep WhatsApp running without subscription fees and if today's announcement means we're introducing third-party ads. The answer is no," the company said.

Do you use whatsapp to talk to your friends?
"Starting this year, we will test tools that allow you to use WhatsApp to communicate with businesses and organisations that you want to hear from."
"We all get these messages elsewhere today – through text messages and phone calls – so we want to test new tools to make this easier to do on WhatsApp, while still giving you an experience without third-party ads and spam."
WhatsApp, which is owned by Facebook, is currently the most popular messaging app in the world, with more than 900 million users.
